Watergate Bay to Mawgan Porth, South West Coastal Path walk

Since walking from Perranporth to Newquay and also from Porth to Whipsiderry to Watergate, I’ve really wanted to explore the next stretch of the South West Coastal Path walking from Watergate Bay to Mawgan Porth.

I finally ticked it off my to-do list this week as I enjoyed an amazing 10km walk from my home in Newquay, past Whipsiderry Beach and along the South West Coast Path at Watergate Bay to Mawgan Porth… where Ben greeted me with a lift home and a warm pasty! Yum! (Cauliflower and onion bhaji from The Cornish Bakery if you’re wondering… vegan-friendly!)

Read on to see my thoughts and photos from this glorious stretch of the coastal path.

South West Coast Path from Perranporth to Newquay 17.7km walk! Stunning beaches!

Wow, what a walk. 17.7km and 28,756 steps from Perranporth beach all the way to Newquay town! Ben had wanted to do this walk for a while, so we decided to postpone working one morning when we saw blue skies and the sun shining and take the South West Coast Path in Cornwall from Perranporth back to our hometown of Newquay!

24 hours kid-free in Wales: Port Eynon, Swansea + Caerleon Amphitheatre

We had a kid-free 24 hours over the bank holiday weekend and had planned to paint our block paving driveway, however the weather forecast had patches of rain and we needed a full 24 hours rain-free and warm for the paint to dry. So, not wanting to be stuck at home for a weekend when we had the opportunity to get away, we booked a last minute night away on Airbnb to Swansea to explore more of the wonderful Gower!

The Gower is around two and a half hours drive so it’s not too far for a quick one night stay. It’s also stunning and provides the perfect scenery for long walks, talks, ideas and clearing of the mind – much needed after the year we’ve had. It was great to get away from our home too where we have felt so trapped in recent times.

There were no stays left in Gower, but Swansea had a few choices and I decided to spoil us with one of the best looking. It was our ten year anniversary earlier in the year during lockdown and we couldn’t do anything to celebrate, so this was my excuse!

9 AMAZING places to visit in the UK for couples

According to the Office for National Statistics International Passenger Survey, there were 40.9 million visits to the UK in 2019.  In both 2018 and 2019 the UK was ranked as the world’s 10th biggest tourist destination!

From the rolling hills of the English Cotswolds and rugged Welsh Mountains to the hustle and bustle of city life in London, Edinburgh, Belfast and beyond, the UK has a lot to offer tourists and couples looking for a romantic break or kid-free adventure.

It may appear to be a small island, but it’s packed with a diverse range of scenery, architecture, museums, history and culture.

With the coronavirus lockdown severely impacting and restricting everyone’s travel plans, I am now keener than ever to have a weekend away with my husband.  I’m dying to see something other than my local neighbourhood and begin to scratch that travel itch!

Not from the UK?  If you are travelling from abroad then make sure you check the UK visa requirements and the latest travel advice to ensure a smooth journey.

If you’re in the UK then a staycation is a great idea.  The UK has so much to offer for couples and families alike.

See some of my favourite recommendations below.

24 hours exploring Mumbles, Gower, kid-free!

Earlier this year I asked my mum if she’d have Bella and Reuben overnight for the last weekend of February.  It’s the month of mine and Ben’s anniversary and we’ve now been together nine years.  I wanted to go away for one night and explore somewhere new together.  I wasn’t sure where, but as we only had around 30 hours in total kid-free, it couldn’t be too far.

We’ve been to the Gower in Wales two times before kid-free and love it there.  We’ve previously been to Rhossili Bay and Oxwich Bay.  We decided to go again as it’s not too long a drive, around two hours.  This time we decided to visit Mumbles!

Read on to discover what we got up to in Mumbles and where we found lots of yummy vegan food!

Brecon Beacons National Park Wales: Pen y Fan and Cribyn mountain walk

Yesterday we had a kid-free day and I wanted to climb a mountain so we drove to the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. We headed to the Central Beacons which took one hour 50 minutes to drive from our home in Gloucester. We climbed two peaks: Pen y Fan and Cribyn. Read on to learn the route we took and see the incredible views of Welsh Mountains.

Visiting Bristol for half a day

Today me and Ben had a kid-free outing visiting Bristol for a day. We were only there for four hours in total, but it felt like a proper day out and mini-escape. If you’re wondering what you can do in a short trip to Bristol, my favourite U.K. city, then read on for how to spend half a day in Bristol.
