Before we begin, a quick note on changing street art…
As you explore Newquay’s street art scene, keep in mind that these murals and artworks can change over time. Street art is ever-evolving—it may be painted over, altered, or replaced by new works in the future.
While I’ll always share the date I took the photos, please be aware that some pieces might not be available for viewing during your visit. Embrace the fluidity of street art, and remember that part of the charm is how it constantly transforms.

Tips for Visiting Newquay’s Street Art and Murals
Before you head out to explore the murals and street art in Newquay, keep these respectful guidelines in mind to ensure a positive experience for both you and the local community:
- Credit the Artists: When sharing photos of the artwork online or elsewhere, always try to credit the artists whenever possible. If the artist is unknown, simply acknowledge the work as part of Newquay’s street art scene.
- Respect Residential Areas: Many murals are located in residential areas. Please be mindful of the people living nearby and avoid causing disturbances.
- Avoid Loitering: Stay respectful of residents’ privacy by not loitering in front of homes or blocking access to driveways or entrances.
- Stay on Public Footpaths: Stick to public areas and avoid trespassing on private property. Always respect private spaces around the murals.
- Be Quiet and Considerate: Keep noise levels to a minimum, especially in quiet residential areas, and be considerate of any neighbours or local residents around.
- Walk Instead of Drive: Newquay’s murals are scattered throughout the town, and many are best explored on foot. Walking allows you to fully enjoy the sights and get closer to the art. It’s also a great way to experience the local atmosphere and avoid adding to traffic in residential areas.
By following these tips, you’ll be able to enjoy Newquay’s street art while showing respect for both the artwork and the community.

Who is Poseidon?
Poseidon is the Greek god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. He is one of the twelve Olympian gods in Greek mythology, often depicted holding a trident. Poseidon is known for his control over the waters and was considered a powerful deity who could calm or stir the seas. He was also believed to cause earthquakes and was associated with horses, often depicted as the creator of the first horse.
Poseidon is the brother of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Hades, the god of the underworld. While Zeus ruled the sky and Hades the underworld, Poseidon ruled over the oceans, making him one of the most significant gods in ancient Greek religion.
6. Judith and Her Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes
- Artist: A second piece in Newquay by artist Joe Greenaway

What is the story of Judith and her maidservant with the head of Holofernes?
The story of Judith and her maidservant with the head of Holofernes is a timeless tale of bravery and triumph. This dramatic narrative comes from the Biblical Book of Judith, which is part of Catholic and Orthodox traditions but is not included in all Bibles.
In the story, Judith, a courageous Jewish widow, lives in the besieged city of Bethulia. The Assyrian army, led by General Holofernes, threatens her people. Judith hatches a daring plan. Dressed in her finest clothes and accompanied by her maidservant, she enters the enemy camp. Her beauty captivates Holofernes, who invites her to a banquet. Once he falls into a drunken sleep, Judith uses his own sword to decapitate him. She and her maidservant return to Bethulia with his head. The sight of it inspires her people to defeat the now-leaderless Assyrian army.
This story has inspired artists for centuries. Paintings by Caravaggio, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Gustav Klimt capture the tension and courage of Judith’s act. The image of Judith holding Holofernes’ head has become a symbol of justice and the triumph of the oppressed.
While we wouldn’t want to take such drastic measures today, like chopping people’s heads off, Judith’s defiance against oppression and her courage to act for the greater good resonate deeply, reminding us of our own potential to stand against adversity.
