Center Parcs might be known for its wide range of paid activities, but there are also plenty of fun, free things to do – especially if you’re staying during peak season when budgets can be tight.
Whether you’re in Longleat Forest, Whinfell Forest, or another of the UK’s Center Parcs resorts, there are lots of simple, cost-free ways to enjoy your break and make the most of the great outdoors.
Here are 13 free things to do at Center Parcs that the whole family can enjoy – without spending a penny more!
1. Splash in the Subtropical Swimming Paradise
The Subtropical Swimming Paradise is the star of the show – and it’s included in your stay. With wave machines, thrilling rapids, slides, whirlpools, splash zones, and outdoor pools, it offers hours of fun for all ages. Just remember it can get busy during school holidays, so head there early or later in the evening to avoid the crowds.

2. Go on a Bike Ride or Scooter Adventure
If you bring your own bikes or scooters, cycling around the village is a brilliant way to explore and a fun free activity without needing to pay to hire any cycles. Center Parcs is designed with families in mind, with wide forest paths and a peaceful, traffic-free environment, so it’s ideal for safe riding and scooting.

3. Enjoy a Run or Jog Through the Forest
Get in some free exercise by jogging or running along the woodland paths. Surrounded by nature, it’s a lovely way to stay active and take in the fresh forest air. It’s also a great opportunity to spot wildlife along the way.

4. Take a Forest Walk and Admire the Trees
Walking is one of the best ways to explore Center Parcs. Stroll through towering pine trees and redwoods, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and feel immersed in nature. Ideal for families and nature lovers.
5. Spot Wildlife in the Woodland and Water
Wildlife is everywhere at Center Parcs. Keep your eyes peeled for squirrels, ducks, moorhens, deer, rabbits, and even goldfish and koi carp in the indoor ponds! You might also spot birds of prey and other forest creatures, especially early in the morning or at dusk.

6. Build Sandcastles on the Lake Beach
Yes, Center Parcs has a beach! You’ll find it by the lake, complete with real sand. It’s perfect for digging, building sandcastles, or just relaxing with your toes in the sand. The little ones will love this unexpected slice of seaside-style fun.

7. Paddle in the Lake
Next to the beach, there’s usually a designated paddling area where children can safely dip their toes and splash in the lake. It’s ideal for cooling off in warmer weather and makes a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by.
8. Let Loose in the Adventure Playgrounds
Center Parcs offers a fantastic selection of free outdoor adventure playgrounds across the resort, suitable for all ages. Climb, swing, balance and zip line your way around – even grown-ups can join in the fun! One evening, we had the playground to ourselves and raced each other on the zip lines at sunset – a real family highlight.

9. Walk Across the Stepping Stones
Crossing the stepping stones inside the plaza is fun for younger children. It’s also a great spot to spot colourful koi carp and goldfish swimming below.

10. Have a Picnic by the Lake or in the Forest
Bring your own picnic and make use of the many picnic benches around the resort next to the lake, on the greens or in quiet forest areas. It’s a relaxing way to eat lunch while enjoying nature, and a budget-friendly alternative to dining out.
11. Ride the Land Train (Longleat Forest only)
Hop aboard the free land train! It runs regularly throughout the day and stops at key areas including the village plaza and accommodation zones. It’s a lovely way to rest tired legs or just enjoy a different view of the resort.

12. Stroll Around the Lake
Walking around the lake is calming and enjoyable. Watch others having fun on the Aqua Park or flying across the zip line, and keep a lookout for birds and wildlife. It’s especially beautiful in the early morning or just before sunset.

13. Follow the Forest Discovery Trail
At Center Parcs in Longleat Forest, we spotted a fun Forest Discovery Trail with nature boards scattered through the park. These offer wildlife facts, puzzles and challenges, making it a great way for children to learn while exploring. Don’t forget to take photos of their answers to complete the trail!

A Family Holiday That Doesn’t Have to Break the Bank
While Center Parcs holidays can be pricey – especially during school holidays – it’s reassuring to know there are plenty of ways to make the most of your stay without spending more. From swimming and biking to forest adventures and simple nature spotting, these free activities provide loads of entertainment and cherished family memories.
Note: Facilities and features may vary slightly between different Center Parcs locations. While this list is based on our stays at Center Parcs Longleat and Center Parcs Whinfell, most resorts offer similar experiences – though some features, such as the land train or specific trails, may be unique to certain villages.
