Dreaming of a Mediterranean escape but not a fan of the peak season hustle and higher prices?
Visiting Rhodes in October offers an ideal blend of warm weather, lower costs, and a more relaxed pace.
Here are 10 reasons why Rhodes in October is perfect for travellers looking to extend their summer without the usual crowds with insights from our recent family holiday to Rhodes.
1. Cheaper Flights and Accommodation
One of the best things about visiting Rhodes in October is that flights and accommodation become much more affordable.
As peak season ends, airlines and hotels often reduce their prices to attract travellers, making it easier to find budget-friendly flights and accommodations. By travelling in October, you can experience the beauty of Rhodes without the usual high-season price tags.
While we would have been outpriced on an all-inclusive family holiday to Atlantica Aegean Blue in Kolymbia, Rhodes in the spring or summer months, we were able to afford it in October, saving around £3000.

2. Fewer Crowds
Rhodes can get incredibly busy in the summer, especially at top attractions like the Acropolis of Lindos and the Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes Town. By October, the crowds have thinned out, allowing you to explore the island’s historical sites and natural beauty in peace.
Beaches and popular sightseeing spots are less packed, giving you more space to enjoy your holiday at your own pace.

3. Perfect Temperature
With daytime temperatures averaging between 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, Rhodes in October is warm enough for sunbathing, swimming, and sightseeing without the intense heat of the summer.
The weather in Rhodes in October is ideal for those who find the summer heat overwhelming but still want to enjoy the sun. In the evenings, the temperatures are comfortably cooler, allowing for relaxed outdoor dining and evening strolls.
When we went, the last week of October in 2024, it was 25 to 26 degrees Celsius every day with clear blue skies!
In October 2025 while we had some rain and even a thunderstorm, they never lasted long, and the sunshine at around 25 degrees Celsius was quickly back.

4. Warm Sea for Swimming
The Aegean Sea remains warm from the summer heat, making October a perfect time to enjoy a swim. With water temperatures around 23-25 degrees Celsius, the sea is pleasantly warm and refreshing.
Rhodes boasts a variety of stunning beaches, from the golden sands of Tsambika Beach to the pebbly shores of Anthony Quinn Bay, offering plenty of spots to unwind and enjoy the calm, warm water.
Navarone Bay is also beautiful for swimming and many boat trips stop here for a dip in the sea!
5. Possibility of Freebies and Discounts
As the tourist season winds down, vendors and local businesses are often keen to clear out stock and offer end-of-season discounts. Some restaurants and shops may even throw in extras, such as a complimentary dessert or a free drink, as they prepare to close up for the winter.
This can add a special touch to your holiday, as you enjoy additional perks that may not be offered during peak season. We were given some free beers on the Hippo Submarine boat trip!
6. Luxury Hotels at Affordable Prices
Visiting Rhodes in October offers the chance to upgrade your holiday experience by booking luxury accommodation at a fraction of the cost you would pay in summer. Many high-end resorts and hotels lower their prices in October, allowing you to stay in a more luxurious setting than you might typically afford.
This could mean a room with a sea view, private pool access, or even booking that all-inclusive experience you’ve been dreaming of. We couldn’t afford the TUI package holiday with the 5-star hotel we wanted in the summer, or even the spring, but we managed it in October, saving thousands of pounds!
The same happened when we booked Zen Club Luxury Villas in Kolymbia in 2025 – the prices were much more favourable in October compared to the busier summer season.
7. Extend Your Summer with October Sunshine
As temperatures drop and rainy days increase in the UK, Rhodes offers a last taste of summer. October is still filled with sunshine, allowing you to bask in the warmth and enjoy the Mediterranean climate while others are reaching for jumpers and coats back home.
This is a perfect opportunity to prolong that summer glow, enjoy some Vitamin D, and recharge before winter sets in.

8. Cooler Conditions for Hiking and Exploring
If you enjoy outdoor activities, October’s milder temperatures make it an excellent time for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of Rhodes.
Trails around the island, such as those on Mount Tsambika and in the Valley of the Butterflies, offer incredible views and the chance to experience the rugged landscape of Rhodes without the oppressive summer heat.
Cooler mornings and late afternoons are perfect for hitting the trails, allowing you to explore without overheating.
You can also catch an early sunset like we did on Kolymbia Flag Hill. Or if you prefer forest themes, check out Seven Springs and look for the waterfalls.
9. Cultural Events and Festivals
October also brings a variety of cultural events to Rhodes. While the island has a vibrant nightlife, visiting in October gives you a chance to experience more authentic, local celebrations and festivities.
The island hosts several food festivals, where you can sample local produce, wines, and traditional dishes. These events provide a unique opportunity to engage with local culture and learn more about the traditions of Rhodes and the Dodecanese islands.
Rhodes, Greece has several festivals in October, including the International Sea Tourism Festival, the Festival European Polyphony, and the Medieval Rose Festival.
