Ride the Excitement: Adventures for All Ages at Camel Creek

Rides for All Ages: During our visit, our children, aged 7 and 10, had a blast as they discovered a variety of rides catered to their age group. From rollercoasters to thrilling water slides, there was no shortage of entertainment for them. The rollercoasters may not be as intense as those in larger theme parks, which could make them more enjoyable for younger visitors.

Family Favourite: One ride that stood out for our kids was the large blue water slide with rubber dinghies. They couldn’t get enough of it and would have happily gone on it all day.

Thrills and Chills: The log flume ride is a definite highlight, though be prepared to get drenched. My son had second thoughts at the start but wanted another go by the end. As for the merry-go-round style swing ride, it was a hit with the kids but left the adults feeling a bit dizzy!

Soft Play and More: Interestingly, the soft play area was the busiest part of the park during our visit, with a large indoor play area and a cafe. It’s an excellent option for kids to burn off some energy.

A Mix of Attractions: While the park has plenty for primary school-age children, it’s worth noting that some rollercoasters felt a bit rickety, indicating their age. In certain areas, the park seemed somewhat tired and in need of refurbishment. There is also a section with smaller rides suitable for even younger kids, but our children were growing out of that phase.

Mixed Impressions: We were underwhelmed by the Swamp Busters area, which was described as a “beautiful little woodland.” It appeared tired and in need of attention to truly live up to its potential.

Beyond the Rides: What Else to Explore at Camel Creek Adventure Park

Animal Encounters: Camel Creek does have animals around the park. However, if you don’t support zoos, like us, this might not be a highlight for you. Some families prefer theme parks without animals in captivity.

Special Events: During our visit, there was a dinosaur event, allowing kids to have their photos taken with a T-Rex, which was a hit with our children. They run other events throughout the year such as spooky Halloween events!

Food Options: The park’s food offerings were typical of what you’d expect at a theme park, with lots of junk food. However, as a vegan family, we appreciated that there were vegan options available. Just don’t expect anything too healthy!

Return Visit Offer: We noticed a deal for a return visit, possibly free, but it had to be used within one week. This might be attractive to tourists on holiday but less so for locals. It would be great if they extended this offer for locals to use within a month, providing more flexibility.

Friendly Staff: On a positive note, most of the staff were friendly and accommodating. One ride attendant even allowed my son and me to go around again after he chanted “Again, again!”, which made his day!

Clean and Tidy: Despite some areas showing signs of wear and tear, the park overall was clean and tidy. We visited in September, after the school holidays, so we didn’t face long queues, and at times, we were the only ones on some rides – a real bonus!

Would We Return to Camel Creek?

In conclusion, Camel Creek Adventure Park has its ups and downs. While some areas such as the swamp area and woodland could use a refresh, it offers plenty of fun for families with primary school-age children. If you’re looking for a quieter experience, consider visiting outside the summer months.

It’s good to see they are undergoing a winter refurbishment at the time of writing, which will hopefully update some of the areas we saw which were tired in places.

Overall, it’s a decent family day out in Cornwall, with a mix of rides and attractions to keep the little ones entertained.

But would we return?

While we wouldn’t rush back, we would return with our kids for a family day out if the kids want to go again. At least whilst our children are still aged 12/13 and under, as I don’t think the park offers too much beyond this age. I’d also avoid the summer crowds and pick a sunny day outside of the school holidays. It’s worth a visit and the kids had fun which is what matters, but I wouldn’t say we were blown away by the place. It was OK. Hopefully, some refurbishments will help!
