Yesterday we had a kid-free day and I wanted to climb a mountain so we drove to the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. We headed to the Central Beacons which took one hour 50 minutes to drive from our home in Gloucester. We climbed two peaks: Pen y Fan and Cribyn. Today me and Ben had a kid-free outing visiting Bristol for a day. We were only there for four hours in total, but it felt like a proper day out and mini-escape. One of our favourite free things to do with kids in Cheltenham is a visit to Pittville Park. It’s a place I went as a youngster and now I enjoy taking my own children too! It’s only now as an adult that I realise quite how amazing this park is. We live in Gloucester now and there’s nothing quite like it here.
Walking around Pittville Park with my children yesterday, I really noticed quite how beautiful it is. I lived in the centre of Cheltenham town for just under 10 years from my late teens through to my mid-twenties and I definitely took the park for granted and never made the most of it.

On Saturday it was Ben’s Dad’s 70th birthday. We didn’t actually know it was his 70th, but we did know it was his birthday!
I did ask Ben how old his Dad was and he had no idea, so we had to ask.
For a treat, we picked up his Dad and his Dad’s wife and took them to explore 13th-century Skenfrith Castle with us.

I’ve really enjoyed visiting our local and nearby bluebell filled woods and forests recently. I’ve been to Buckholt Woods in Cranham, Coopers Hill Nature Reserve and May Hill in the Forest of Dean. For Mother’s Day on Sunday we went on a short family trip to Weston-super-Mare. Weston is the closest beach to our home in Gloucestershire, around a one hour drive.
As a child we used to always call it Weston-super-Mud! It’s not the prettiest of beaches and the tide always seems to be out for miles resulting in sludgy sand and the water colour when it is in is very murky brown – hence jokingly calling it mud!
If you love the typical British tourist beach, however, then Weston beach has everything you need. We spent just a few short hours there on Sunday and managed to squeeze in a few standard touristy things even though we were freezing.
