Having family in Germany is quite a blessing as we always have an excuse to visit this amazing country. Soltau, in the north of Germany might not be a well known holiday destination but this small German town is surrounded by some amazing gems for the whole family to enjoy.
Soltau is located just off the number 7 Autobahn between Hannover and Hamburg. If you fly into Hannover it’s a 45 minute drive north of the airport so quite an easy travel destination.
We’ve been to Soltau with our kids about 6 times now since they were born and have explored the area to find some of the best activities. All of the below activities or attractions are all within 30 minutes of Soltau by car. Each would be on our must see places when visiting this area of Germany. There are lots of places to stay in and around Soltau and the rest of Germany. It’s easy to find a suitable accommodation using eBooking when planning your stay.
So without further ado, here are our top 5 best things to do in Soltau, Germany.

What an amazing swimming experience. This has to be my all time favourite swimming location. The Soltau Therme has it all with some really unique features including a saltwater pool, indoor and outdoor pools and a pool with a retractable roof! There are also diving boards, slides, indoor and outdoor patio eating areas and a toddlers pool. It can get a little expensive if you decide to use all the facilities including the sauna but it’s worth experiencing everything if you can.
We visit every time we go to Soltau, especially in the summer when you can lay outside in the sun loungers. Find more information on their website here: https://www.soltau-therme-online.de/

Beautiful city, I hope I will have this kind of money 🙏
Probably a place we have driven past on the autobahn with thinking about stopping. Must make a mental note to stop next time.
It sounds lovely! Lots to do, especially for families.
