Exploring Lanzarote: 10 Must-See Spots on the Island

Lanzarote is one of the most popular Canary Islands, that is absolutely full of surprises. From hidden beaches to fiery volcanos, you will never run out of things to do here. If you are planning a holiday in Lanzarote, here are the 10 things that should not be missed, and some photos from my trips to Lanzarote in the past!

1. Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park is like being on another planet. The main attraction there, the Fire Mountains, was created by volcanic eruptions centuries ago, leaving craters and lava fields behind. You can take a here and even eat in a restaurant that uses volcano heat to cook food!

2. Playa de Papagayo

Lanzarote holidays are all about the beautiful golden beaches and turquoise waters… One of the best places on the island for sun-worshippers is Playa de Papagayo. You can enjoy a chilled afternoon on the sand or explore the sea while snorkelling. 

3. Jameos del Agua

Created by a famous artist named César Manrique, Jameos del Agua is a place that combines art and nature seamlessly. This popular tourist destination has turned natural caves into a magical oasis with lush gardens, pools, concert halls, and eateries.

4. Cueva de los Verdes 

Many tourist activities in Lanzarote are volcano-related, and Cueva de los Verdes is no exception. It is a lava tube that is now safe for tourists to walk through and admire volcanic activities. Additionally, the lights and shadows there create an optical illusion that adds to the experience. 

5. Mirador del Río

If you are looking for some great viewpoints on Lanzarote, Mirador del Río is the place to be! This viewpoint on the edge of a cliff offers panoramic views of the whole island as well as the nearby ones. It’s also a great spot for stunning pictures.

6. La Geria

Wine lovers, this one’s for you! La Geria is Lanzarote’s wine country, where vineyards grow in volcanic soil. Here, you can visit local wineries and taste Lanzarote’s best wines, including the Malvasia wine, as well as learn all about its production. 

7. Jardín de Cactus

Another creation by the artist César Manrique, the Cactus Garden, is home to over 1,000 species of cacti. This quirky spot is not only artistic, but educational too, and an absolute must-visit for plant enthusiasts.

8. El Golfo

El Golfo is a small seaside village that looks as picturesque as a postcard. It has a unique combination of black sand, red cliffs, blue sea, and a vibrant green lagoon. This attraction is a photographer’s dream come true, but it is worth a visit for anyone.

9. César Manrique Foundation

César Manrique left a huge impact on Lanzarote, which is why he also has a foundation in his name. The foundation is located in the artist’s real home and garden, featuring his most famous paintings and other art displays. 

10. Teguise

Teguise is one of the oldest villages in the Canary Islands, and it truly feels like travelling back in time. This town has charming streets, brimming with local culture, live music, historic buildings, and shops for crafts. It is the perfect way to spend an afternoon in Lanzarote.

Conclusion
