Sicily has a fascinating history, shaped by Greek, Roman, and Arabic influences. Exploring the island is like walking through an open-air museum, making it a great way for kids to learn about history in a fun and interactive way.

Some top historical sites we’d love to visit include:

  • The Valley of the Temples – A UNESCO-listed site with impressive ancient Greek ruins.

3. Vegan-Friendly Italian Food in Sicily

Sicilian cuisine is world-famous, and thankfully, Italy is one of the best places for plant-based eaters! From fresh pasta to wood-fired pizza, there are plenty of vegan-friendly options in Italy to enjoy.

Some plant-based highlights we’re looking forward to trying include:

  • Authentic Italian marinara pizza – Simple yet delicious, made with fresh tomatoes, basil, and olive oil.
  • Pasta alla Norma – A Sicilian dish made with aubergines, tomatoes, and basil.
  • Arancini (vegan versions available!) – Deep-fried rice balls, sometimes stuffed with tomato and vegetables.

Of course, we’ll also be indulging in plenty of sorbetto al limone (lemon sorbet), which is naturally vegan and refreshing on a hot day!

4. Sicily’s Year-Round Great Weather

One of the reasons Sicily is so appealing is its Mediterranean climate, which means warm summers and mild winters.

  • Spring (March-May): Ideal for sightseeing with mild temperatures.
  • Summer (June-August): Hot and sunny, best for beach days.
  • Autumn (September-November): Still warm, with fewer crowds.
  • Winter (December-February): Cooler but still great for exploring towns and cultural sites.

For a family trip, spring or early autumn seems like the perfect time to go—warm enough for outdoor adventures but not too hot for exploring.
