Thinking about a spring getaway? Visiting Cyprus in April offers the perfect balance of warm weather, fewer tourists, and stunning natural beauty — all before the summer crowds roll in.
Whether you’re a family looking for outdoor adventures or a couple hoping for a quiet break, April in Cyprus can be a great time to explore the island.
We visited Cyprus in April and experienced a real mix of weather and temperatures — here’s exactly what it was like, plus tips on what to do, pack, and expect.
What’s the Weather Like in Cyprus in April?
April is considered spring in Cyprus, and the weather is a mixed bag — some days are beautifully warm and sunny, while others can be windy or wet. During our week-long family holiday in Cyprus, we had a bit of everything.
We experienced daytime temperatures between 15°C and 22°C, depending on cloud cover and wind. Sunny days were warm enough for sunbathing and wearing shorts and t-shirts, but on cloudy or breezy days, it was too chilly for summer clothes, so we wore trousers and layers like hoodies or cardigans.
Evenings dropped to around 10–13°C, so a jumper or coat was definitely needed after sunset, which was around 7.30pm in mid-April.
On our final night, we had a dramatic thunderstorm and heavy rainfall, which continued into the next day. Fortunately, it was our travel day, but the weather would have stopped us from going out had it not been. Interestingly, the week after we left, the forecast was for glorious sunshine all week, so it really does vary!
With spring weather in Cyprus in April, the island was lush and green, with blooming wildflowers and heavy citrus trees — a lovely contrast to the dry, dustier look of peak summer.
When we arrived, the weather forecast predictions were changing daily:

What to Wear and Pack for Cyprus in April
Layering is key. For the most part, we wore shorts and light clothing during the day, but we were glad to have warmer clothes for the cooler or windy days.
Here’s what we recommend packing:
- Shorts, t-shirts, summer dresses
- Cardigans, hoodies or a light jacket
- Longer trousers for changeable weather
- Swimwear (especially if your accommodation has a pool or you fancy braving the sea!)
- Comfortable walking shoes or sandals
- Sunscreen for the sunny days if your skin is not used to the sun and sunglasses (by the way, a pair of stylish sunglasses can really complete your look, whether you opt for Gucci sunglasses, or go for classic designs from brands like Ray-Ban or Prada!)
- A raincoat or umbrella, just in case!
Things to Do in Cyprus in April
Thanks to the mild temperatures, April is a brilliant time to explore the island’s natural beauty, go hiking, or enjoy coastal walks without the intense summer heat. Here are some of the places we visited during our trip in the northwestern region of Polis and Latchi:
- Avakas Gorge Nature Trail – a stunning walk through narrow trails deep in the gorge, with towering rock walls either side and picturesque streams with multiple species of plants
- Blue Lagoon Hike – from the Baths of Aphrodite, this trail was peaceful and scenic through the Akamas National Park
- Lara Beach – quiet and rugged, especially as we walked along the headland from another beach to reach Lara Beach
- Rusty Viewpoint – a unique hillside viewpoint, great for photos and wide-open sea views
- St George’s Harbour – a relaxed spot for strolling and admiring the boats and beaches with beautiful scenery (also known as Pegeia harbour)
- Latchi Harbour – lots of restaurants by the harbour and marina, and boat trips easily bookable
- Latchi and Polis beaches – ideal for a walk or paddle on calmer days
This time of year is perfect for getting outdoors and making the most of the scenery without overheating. You can find more inspiration for families in our guide to free things to do in Latchi with kids.

Is Cyprus Warm Enough to Swim in April?
For most, the sea is very cold in April. We dipped our toes in while walking along the beach, but didn’t attempt a swim — the chill was enough to put us off!
Our villa had a private unheated pool, which was cold at first, but once we were fully in and moving about, it was bearable. The kids swam every single day and loved it, while we joined them most days. On warm, sunny afternoons, it felt fine once you braved the first few seconds — just be prepared to warm up quickly with a towel after getting out if there’s a breeze or cloudy as it may not be warm enough in April to warm up from the sun’s heat alone!
Having a private pool really helped, as it felt more inviting without a crowd and warmed slightly under the spring sun. The sun’s angle and warmth in April was still enough to make afternoon swims possible, even if refreshing! We stayed at the peaceful and private Villa Kambos Dio, which was ideal for enjoying the outdoors and a pool with children.
