We recently visited Pixel Pop in Newquay for a unique interactive gaming experience using a real pixelated floor and wall. It’s a new tech adventure in Newquay, and we booked it for the kids as soon as we saw it online because it looked like so much fun.
So what is Pixel Pop really like? And is it worth visiting?
In my Pixel Pop review, I’ll share everything about our visit, including how it works, what to expect, our honest thoughts, photos, and a short video showing the experience in action. I’ll also embed some of Pixel Pop’s own posts so you can get a feel for the games and atmosphere.
If you’re thinking about booking, hopefully this helps.
Getting There and Parking
We walked as we live nearby, but parking is easy. There are marked free parking bays directly outside Pixel Pop and also across the road in front of the shops. These spaces allow free parking for up to two hours – plenty of time for a Pixel Pop session!
If those are full, there’s free on-street parking nearby, though be mindful of residents, as it’s a lived-in area.

First Impressions of Pixel Pop in Newquay
Pixel Pop is inside a small shop unit, so from the outside you’d never guess what’s inside. That alone made the kids even more excited.
I’d already seen photos online, but the kids hadn’t… stepping inside felt completely different. Almost the entire floor and the back wall are part of the interactive pixel experience. The rest of the space is painted black, so the colours stand out and it feels like stepping into a real-life arcade game!
At the front of the venue there’s a small reception desk, a fridge with drinks, and a couple of seats for adults who aren’t joining in. That said, after watching the kids play, I think most adults will want to join in next time!
Booking and Check-In
We booked online through Pixel Pop’s website and paid for a one-hour session for the kids.
The cost was £12 per person for one hour, and you book a time slot for your group. It looks like the capacity is around six players per session, but you have the space to yourselves.
Check-in was quick. We arrived a couple of minutes before our slot, took shoes off and the owner set up the first game.

First Reactions and How the Pixel Pop Games Work
The kids were desperate to get going the second they saw the floor light up. Shoes off, socks on, and straight into the first game.
Most games involve tapping coloured squares on the floor with your feet and tapping matching colours on the wall with your hands while avoiding red squares or “laser” lines.
There are fast reaction games, teamwork games and competitive ones. Some require both players to work together, while others involve trying to beat each other or get the highest score. Some can be played by the players at once, and others one by one.
It’s simple enough for kids to understand straight away, but challenging enough to keep it exciting. There are different levels and types of challenges, so it’s not all the same.
They even have a leaderboard for one of the games and they’ll share the latest winners on their Facebook page – a great challenge for local families or those who visit Newquay regularly to try and beat!

The Kids’ Experience
They loved it from the start.
They were running around, laughing, concentrating, getting competitive and improving as the time went on. They only stopped for quick breaks because they were sweaty and out of breath, but wanted to get right back to it. It’s a proper workout without feeling like one, and the kids didn’t want to stop!
As soon as they’d recovered with a quick sip of water and sit down, they were straight back on.
Since we’ve been, our son has been begging us to take him there for his next birthday party with some friends – so he definitely enjoyed it!

Session Length
We booked one hour and stayed for the full time.
At first, an hour might not sound like much, but it’s definitely enough. The kids were active and moving constantly – running, hopping, jumping – so by the end they’d had a brilliant workout.
We’ve seen adults playing on Pixel Pop’s socials too and can confirm, after trying a couple of short rounds ourselves when the kids had a quick break, it’s just as fun for grown-ups!
Atmosphere and Staff
The space is intimate, so only one group is in the session at a time. During our visit it was just us, the owner and his son.
The owner stayed nearby to select games, explain rules, and keep it running smoothly. He was friendly, helpful and approachable.
Value for Money
At £12 per person for an hour, I think the price is fair, especially for something so unique.
It’s a great rainy-day activity or a fun treat for the kids. As a family of four, it would be £48 if we all played, so not something we would do every week, but an occasional family activity or party idea is perfect.

Who It’s Best For
Honestly, almost anyone.
Kids, teens, adults, couples, families, groups of friends, competitive people and those who just want a laugh.
We booked it for the kids originally, but another time, I think we’ll all join in!
Practical Tips
- You play in socks only, so make sure they fit well and aren’t slippy.
- Trampoline-style grippy socks are ideal and the owner mentioned they may stock them in future.
- Bring water – you’ll need it! They do sell some cold drinks, so you can buy refreshments there too.
- Book ahead online to reserve your time slot.
- Opening hours at the time of writing: 9am to 7pm weekdays, 9am to 8pm weekends. Times may change, so check their website before booking.
Pixel Pop Newquay – Our Final Thoughts
Pixel Pop is such a great addition to Newquay. It’s brilliant for keeping active indoors, especially when the weather isn’t great or you just want something unique and different to do.
It feels like being inside a real-life gameshow and the kids are already asking to go again. As mentioned, my son has even put in a request to have his next birthday party there, so it’s a hit with the kids!
If you’re local or visiting Newquay on holiday and looking for something fun and memorable, Pixel Pop is well worth trying.
