Lifeguards are on duty from April to October, ensuring a safe swimming environment for everyone. The beach is backed with sandunes too which children love to run up and down!  At low tide there is still beach and sand to enjoy.  At high tide the beach is wonderfully large and spacious.
  • Coasteering: For the adventurous, coasteering is a must-try activity at Fistral. Explore the coastline by jumping, climbing, and swimming around the headland cliffs and rock pools. Several companies in Newquay offer coasteering tours suitable for different fitness levels.

Whether you’re surfing, walking, dining, or simply relaxing, Fistral Beach is a place to enjoy the natural beauty and vibrant culture of Cornwall throughout the year.

Why We Love Fistral Beach (and Locals Tips)

Living in Newquay, Fistral Beach is one of our favourites. The vast golden sands and clear turquoise waters always look great in every season, the water being most inviting in the spring and summer when warm! Winter wetsuits are recommended at other times of the year, unless you are brave enough for cold water swimming!

We love the Stable for food as they always have a large tasty range of plant-based options and we are a vegan family. The staff are always friendly. I recommend booking during high season as they can be fully booked for entire days, especially at the weekends.

The Stable Newquay Fistral

My favourite way to view Fistral is from Towan Headland or walking back from Pentire Headland at the top of Esplanade Road, as you’ll get the best views of the entire beach. It always looks stunning, no matter what the weather or season.

Walking through the shoreline is great, especially on a sunny warm day… just watch out for jellyfish in the summer! There are often many compass jellyfish which are cool to spot and have a close-up look when they are scattered on the shore.

My son has surf lessons here which he loves and we have bodyboarded here many times. We tend to avoid the beach in the peak season as it does get very crowded, but still enjoy meals at the Stable in the summer and headland walks by Fistral.

There’s always a laid-back atmosphere. The shops are great to browse, Fat Face and Ann’s Cottage being my favourite, with super friendly helpful staff too.

Oh, and we’ve been to see the fireworks twice and it’s amazing they put on the show for free!
