By the final day of our recent family holiday to Cyprus, we realised we hadn’t yet explored Latchi and Polis — the two closest areas to our peaceful base at Villa Kambos Dio, nestled amongst citrus trees near Polis.
So we set off on a relaxed day out to enjoy the Latchi harbour, its surrounding beaches and some of the kid-friendly free things to do in Latchi.
Parking and First Impressions
We found a large free car park behind the children’s play area near the harbour. (I was amazed how much free parking we encountered during our trip — check out this post about surprising things in Cyprus to see what else we weren’t expecting!)

Our 10-year-old son made a beeline for the wooden obstacle course in the park, so we let him burn off some energy before walking over to the marina.

Just before that, we were drawn to some dramatic waves crashing against the rocks beside the wooden boardwalk — perfect for a few quick photos and a moment to watch the sea spray without getting soaked!

Latchi Harbour and Marina
The marina itself is a lovely place to stroll, lined with yachts, self-drive boats, fishing vessels and boats offering excursions to Blue Lagoon.

Having already experienced Blue Lagoon on a wavy day, we didn’t get the postcard-perfect turquoise water experience this time, but it still looked beautiful.
On a calmer day, I imagine it would feel a lot like the crystal-clear Navarone Bay we visited in Rhodes, where we swam through amazingly clear and the most vivid blue colour of water.

A row of restaurants backs the harbour, bustling even at 11am. Though we didn’t eat there, we spotted several vegan-friendly dishes on the menus — perfect for our plant-based family if we visit again.

Walking Along Latchi Beach
From the marina, we headed down to Latchi Beach. It’s a mix of shingle, small rocks and sand, with grassy areas dotted with palm trees and flower-filled boats — ideal for sunbathing or a picnic. There are more cafés and restaurants backing the beach, so food and drink options are plentiful.

The beach walk wasn’t the easiest for our son in pool sliders (or bare feet) — the mix of terrain was a bit uncomfortable — but he managed fine along the shoreline. Since we were visiting Cyprus in April, the sea was still very cold! We dipped our toes in but didn’t swim.

On our return to the marina, we took a different route along the road to admire the row of whitewashed villas, mansions and manicured gardens. Many had gardeners tending to them, adding to the luxurious feel. If these are holiday homes, then these villas looked like a peaceful place to stay if you want to be near the beach.

A Stroll Along Polis Municipal Beach
While the kids relaxed at the playground and Ben took some drone footage, I went off for a solo stroll along Polis Municipal Beach. The beach is long and peaceful, with a seafront promenade suitable for all levels of mobility. Travellers interested in capturing cinematic drone footage in Cyprus will find the combination of calm waters and open skies ideal for creating stunning aerial shots.

Along the way, I passed kids’ play areas, adult gym equipment, showers, beach cafés, and villas with back gardens leading right onto the path — some with “secret garden” type doors opening onto the promenade.

I walked nearly as far as Polis Camping Site, which is literally beside the beach — a fantastic location for those who enjoy a more rustic stay. The walk took about 30 minutes with lots of stops for views and photos, and was the perfect way to reflect on our week of exploring and relaxing in Cyprus.

Final Thoughts
Although we left Latchi and Polis until the last day of our trip, they turned out to be a perfect low-key way to round off the week. Between the scenic coastline, boat-filled harbour, family-friendly parks and peaceful beach walks, there was something for everyone. We could have easily spent another full day enjoying this area alone and checking out the plentiful eateries!

If you’re staying nearby, don’t miss the chance to explore the Latchi marina, harbourfront restaurants, and the lovely coastal walkway through Polis. It’s an ideal way to enjoy the more tranquil, authentic side of the island.
