Whilst Cheltenham in Gloucestershire is famous for its horse racing festivals, there’s another traditional festival which is a little more quirky and unusual. It’s held annually on the May Spring Bank Holiday at Coopers Hill, just on the edge of Gloucester by Birdlip and Brockworth, and is known as Coopers Hill Cheese Rolling. I couldn’t not share this event with you on my travel blog as I can see it happening from my garden. We live right next to this event and it’s crazy! On Saturday evening we attended the Spectacle of Light event at Sudeley Castle. It was an event I only heard of last year as a friend had attended, so after visiting the castle in the summer this year with the children, I knew I wanted to take them back to explore their light show event. Having mentioned our plan to attend to my mum and sister, my sister thought it an excellent Christmas gift for us so she bought our tickets and we all attended together. In this blog post I will review our family day out in Gloucestershire to Sudeley Castle for their 2018 Spectacle of Light event. Going for a family day out to a local attraction can be quite costly. For the four of us to enjoy a day out at a wildlife park or theme park, for example, can cost well over £100 once you factor in entrance fees, parking, getting there and so on. In fact, it can often cost a lot more than this. It’s quite mad how a lot of theme parks and similar now also charge a parking charge for the day! Surely it should just be free to park in their car park whilst a visitor?! It’s madness.
With this in mind, it’s always great to cut costs wherever possible and to make a saving on ticket prices when we can. Sometimes searching high and low online for a discount can do the trick, but if you are looking for an easier way to make massive savings on family days out then I am going to introduce you to Kids Pass in this blog post. Whilst we love exploring places far and wide, we also love exploring our home county of Gloucestershire for family days out. Whilst days out to attractions with kids can get quite costly with ticket prices, parking charges, meals and fuel costs, it can be much cheaper and even free to take the kids for local free family days out. We are very lucky to have a few great places nearby to visit if we don’t fancy spending a lot of money or even any at all. If you are ever in my neck of the woods in south west England then here are a few of the best places you can visit with kids without spending a penny.
