5 of the best things to do in Soltau Germany

Having family in Germany is quite a blessing as we always have an excuse to visit this amazing country. Soltau, in the north of Germany might not be a well known holiday destination but this small German town is surrounded by some amazing gems for the whole family to enjoy.

Soltau is located just off the number 7 Autobahn between Hannover and Hamburg. If you fly into Hannover it’s a 45 minute drive north of the airport so quite an easy travel destination.

We’ve been to Soltau with our kids about 6 times now since they were born and have explored the area to find some of the best activities. All of the below activities or attractions are all within 30 minutes of Soltau by car. Each would be on our must see places when visiting this area of Germany. There are lots of places to stay in and around Soltau and the rest of Germany. It’s easy to find a suitable accommodation using eBooking when planning your stay.

So without further ado, here are our top 5 best things to do in Soltau, Germany.

Number One – Soltau Therme

What an amazing swimming experience. This has to be my all time favourite swimming location. The Soltau Therme has it all with some really unique features including a saltwater pool, indoor and outdoor pools and a pool with a retractable roof! There are also diving boards, slides, indoor and outdoor patio eating areas and a toddlers pool. It can get a little expensive if you decide to use all the facilities including the sauna but it’s worth experiencing everything if you can.

Number Two – Flüggenhofsee, Munster

Here another great swimming experience but this time it’s free! Just 25 minute drive from Soltau is the town of Munster. This lovely picturesque town hosts the most beautiful lake of Flüggenhofsee. It features a soft sandy beach, children’s play areas and a large swimming and boating lake. No need to book this one, just turn up and enjoy a little bit of wild swimming. Perfect to cool down on a hot summers day.

Number Three – Südsee-Camp

If you like 5 star camping then this places has some great options. Whether you want to stay in a wooden lodge, chalet or you have your own camping facilities then this caters for all. It has an on site adventure swimming facility, a lake with sandy beaches, loads of children’s play areas, mini golf and loads more. It’s one of the best campsites we’ve been to across Europe.

You can visit the facilities even if you are not staying there. Simply buy a day pass and explore the grounds and enjoy everything this park has to offer.

Number Four – Heide Park

It’s the largest theme park in northern Germany and one of the largest in the country. The Heide Park is definitely on the must do list for Soltau. It’s a massive 850,000m2 park with rides suitable for the whole family.

It’s just 10 minutes drive from Soltau town centre and will keep the whole family entertained for days. You can buy day passes or stay in their resort for extended visits. Pricing in peak seasons at the time of writing for adults (over 12) is €44 and children 3-11 are €40.

Number Five – Snow Dome in Bispingen

If you’re into skiing, snowboarding, tubing or sledging then the Snow Dome in Bispingen is a great place to visit. It’s about 300m long, 100m wide and at one end is 78m tall.

Whether you’re a beginner or a pro on the slopes you will find something to enjoy here. And if the cold snow isn’t for you then you can also enjoy a huge 12,00m2 model with railways and beautifully created landscapes.

There are many more things to enjoy in and around Soltau Germany. Even if is just a stroll through some of their beautifully maintained parks or a horse and cart ride through the Heide you’ll never be short of something to do.

    The Heide entertainment park looks like lots of fun and the upside down house looks incredible.
