Top places to visit in San Diego as a couple

One thing my husband and I love to do is create bucket lists and travel ideas for our future travel plans. We are always discussing places we’d like to visit, both as a family and as a couple.

One of my favourite places I’ve visited so far has to be San Diego.  I found it incredibly exciting when I visited the USA for the first time, even if it was with an ex-boyfriend in 2010!

We spent five weeks in San Diego visiting some of his skater friends, seeing the sites and for him to take part in an inline skating competition he had qualified for.

Even though I have now been with my husband for a decade, I still do have fond memories of being in the US and I’d love to return one day.

There is so much more of California I’d like to explore too, but San Diego is a great starting point if you’re looking for a base whilst there with so much to explore as a family and a couple.

If you’re looking for things to do as a couple in San Diego, whether you’re a tourist like I was or perhaps you’re nearby and looking for dating ideas to impress a date you’ve met on San Diego Personals, then read on!

Hike a mountain

Whilst I was in San Diego, I remember someone telling me it was the only place you could go to the beach and sunbathe, then go to a mountain and ski all in the same day!

San Diego is not only home to the most pristine beaches that stretch for miles, but there are mountain peaks a plenty.

According to PeakVisor ‘There are 241 named mountains in San Diego County. Hot Springs Mountain is the highest point. The most prominent mountain is High Point.’

If you love to adventure then take a mountain hike, or if it’s the right season then a skiing date could be great fun!

Luckily San Diego has a great climate all year round, making the beaches the perfect spot for most of the year.  San Diego was even ranked as the number one pleasant place in the US ‘with 261 “pleasant” days’ when it comes to their climate!  These days are defined as ‘having an average temperature between 55 to 75 degrees [Fahrenheit], minimum temperature above 45 degrees and no significant rain or snow.’

Amazing attractions

There are no end of days out, attractions, parks and zoos in San Diego.  Yet again, you are spoilt for choice for things to do as a couple.

Balboa Park is perhaps the most famous attraction covering 1200 acres and home to gardens, walking paths, museums, theatres, San Diego Zoo, restaurants, gift shops and more.

Google say ‘[San Diego’s] crown jewel is sprawling Balboa Park, where botanical gardens and towering trees sit alongside eclectic museums and Spanish Renaissance-style buildings.’

If your date is a big fan of Disney then you may wish to explore Disneyland in Anaheim, California.  It’s only 95 miles north of downtown San Diego so it’s possible to add it to your San Diego itinerary as a jam packed day out or even as a weekend break.

Wine tasting

If you’re a fan of wine then you’ll be pleased to know there are many small family owned wineries dotted throughout San Diego offering tours and tastings.

The San Diego Tourism Authority  say ‘With a mild Mediterranean climate, rich fertile soil and more unique growing regions than any other county in America, it’s no surprise that wine grapes thrive here and that San Diego has become a top wine destination.’

And, if you’re wondering what to eat as a couple in San Diego, then it has to be Mexican cuisine!

Catch a Cheerleading Performance by the San Diego Chargers

If you and your partner are sports enthusiasts, San Diego offers a fantastic array of sporting events that you can enjoy together. While San Diego Chargers have since moved to Los Angeles, you can still catch exciting NFL action in this vibrant city. Even though the team is now known as the Los Angeles Chargers, their legacy in San Diego lives on.

Attending an NFL game at SoFi Stadium in nearby Los Angeles can be a thrilling experience for couples.
