In this blog post I will share my Pentewan Sands Holiday Park review and lots of photos at the end. Pentewan Sands is a holiday resort in Cornwall with a privately owned beach called Pentewan Sands beach.

It’s a touring site with pitches for caravans, campers and tents, but also has a large range of holiday homes to rent and beach houses. We stayed in a three bedroom holiday home in The Willows section.

Pentewan Sands Holiday Park review

The Willows section is set to the back right corner and feels a little more private than the homes all lined up in rows. We did actually choose a different home in this section, the cheapest bronze graded home available, but on our arrival they had upgraded us to a gold plus home as they had one available and were selling the original home we had booked. What a great surprise!

For a three bed mobile home for the week we payed £387. This is for seven nights and includes access to their two indoor pools, soft play and entertainment. I think the price is great just for the accommodation so everything else is a bonus.

Thoughts on arrival at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park

Our first thoughts on arrival were what a great setting. By the sea and in amongst luscious green rolling hills. Perfect!

The holiday home was spotless. We were really impressed with the size inside and that the main bedroom even had an en-suite toilet! We had a large fridge and a proper freezer so our first stop was a ten minute drive to Tesco to stock up on food for the week!

On site there are plenty of food options too. For the first night we went to the on-site chippy to save ourselves having to cook anything after all the travelling. The kids loved the French fries and I liked the skin on chips.

We didn’t explore the beach or park until the next day as we’d arrived late afternoon and spent this day getting food shopping and the kids loved just being in the holiday home! I typically had a work emergency as soon as we arrived so was desperately trying to get online for the first couple of hours to sort some things out on my website and via email! The joys of being self-employed!

This meant it was a lovely surprise to wake up in the morning and explore the beach and village for the first time. It’s such a gorgeous setting and being late October it was very peaceful. The whole park and beach are very well kept and spotless.

There were actually a crowd of litter pickers on the beach who must have been volunteering and they were struggling to find anything to pick up!

We had a short stroll into Pentewan village where there is a tea rooms, pub called The Ship Inn and shop. It’s literally next to the holiday park, so there are many food options on site and just a few minutes away.

Pentewan Sands holiday home review

We cooked in the holiday home the next day and prepared lunch to take out with us. Everything was fine and clean with plenty of crockery and cutlery.

We also had our first showers the next day with a lovely large shower enclosure and warm fast water. The holiday home was heated throughout our stay and very warm.

The beds and pillows were comfy, the linen was clean. There was plenty of room for us all. The two kids rooms were compact with two tiny beds in each, but absolutely fine for sleeping. The kids played in the living area so only needed their rooms to sleep.

The three bed can actually sleep 8 in total with 6 in the bedrooms and 2 on a fold out sofa bed.

There were two parking spaces right outside our holiday home which is very convenient.

We didn’t use it as cold and wet most of our stay, but we had a balcony with table and chairs too.

We really have no complaints about the holiday home itself at all! It was clean and tidy, fully equipped, warm and plenty big enough for us all.

Facilities at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park

There are lots of facilities onsite the holiday park itself. There are toilet and shower blocks for those camping, a chip shop, grocery/gift shop, reception, diner on the beach and a centre called The Seahorse with an arcade, clubhouse, soft play and two swimming pools.

There is also a kids play area on the beach so there is plenty for the kids to do rain or shine.

The Seahorse

The Seahorse is home to the swimming pools, clubhouse/bar and soft play. Adults can sit in the bar/restaurant in the day whilst the kids play in the soft play.

We sat and had a green tea and caught up on some emails one day whilst the kids played in the soft play. The soft play has three levels and is free entry!

There’s also a stage in the bar/restaurant where I assume they have the kids evening entertainment. In the school holidays and half terms they have activities for the kids every day and evening.

There is also bingo and discos in the evenings. I’ve popped an image of the lineup whilst we were there in the photos below. We didn’t go to the clubhouse in the evening, but plenty of entertainment if you want it.

We had dinner in the evenings in our holiday home and then chilled in our pyjamas watching TV, playing on iPads, reading books or typing blog posts!

Swimming pools

We did go swimming one day and I think we picked an unfortunate day to experience swimming at Pentewan Sands!

The main kids pool looks great. It’s not too large, but has two slides. There’s a smaller splash area and a hot tub style pool for adults only.

In a separate room there is a simple rectangle pool too.

The day we went swimming was a horrid wet day, so I think everyone for ten miles decided to go swimming!

It was packed!

I think it was a bit too packed. Too busy to really enjoy it.

The kids managed to splash around in the splash pool and have a quick swim, but then the chlorine levels were too high so everyone had to get out, all at once. So as you can imagine everyone went to the changing rooms at once!

Obviously this couldn’t be helped and everyone needed to get out to be safe, but they definitely don’t have enough changing facilities and showers for that many people in the pool at once.

The pools and changing rooms could do with tripling in size!

I do think we picked a particularly bad day to go swimming as everyone must have gone due to the weather so maybe it’s a bit calmer there usually.

If it is usually as busy then the pools really need expanding!

Ben did take the kids to the soft play on his own at one point and said the pool looked much quieter when we walked past, so we must have gone at an exceptionally busy time!

Pentewan Plaice fish and chips

We were trying our best to holiday on a budget and eat supermarket food for most of our stay, but we did treat ourselves to the chippy on site a few times. The prices were very reasonable and they had loads of vegan options that we’ve not seen at any other chip shops before.

On the first night after all the travelling we simply had some chips each.

On another night we had some chips to share with noodles we had made at the holiday home, trying to create a Chinese takeaway type meal! This time we also ordered jackfruit nuggets which were yummy! I love jackfruit and I’ve never seen it on a chip shop menu before. What a great idea!

There is also food served in The Seahorse and Hubbox restaurants, but we did not try these. The shop has hot pasties and more! Again we did not try them, but lots of food options available if you want to eat out or get a takeaway.
