Cornwall with kids: Polperro

In this blog post I will share our quick visit to Polperro in Cornwall and our photos.

We worked out this is our fourth time to Cornwall (since me and Ben have been together). We’d been for a short trip before kids to Perranporth and stayed in Ben’s tiny tent. When Bella was perhaps one or two we stayed in The Victoria Hotel in Newquay. Two years ago we stayed for one week in the middle of North Cornwall somewhere and this time we have stayed for a week at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park.

Whilst I can’t really remember too much about the first two trips, we have typically had the worst weather on both our week long stays!

Cornwall with kids: Polperro

After our last trip to Cornwall which rained for a full seven days I booked our rather luxurious all-inclusive holiday to Fuerteventura as we felt in need of a proper holiday without rain!

On this trip we thankfully had a sunny first day and dry second day for the first half, but then we have had a non stop high wind storm for 2.5 days! There were 50mph winds rocking the holiday home! It’s been so loud that I’ve been woken up several times in the night.

We tried our best to prepare for all weathers and still get outdoors. We packed the kids all in one waterproofs, our waterproof coats and wellies.

The weather still beat us!

After a soggy trip to Porthluney Beach yesterday where we we soaked within 30 minutes, we attempted a trip to Polperro today.

My thoughts were that if we didn’t go to a beach, but instead a village with streets we could explore, then we might be better protected from the elements.

I’d found Polperro on the National Trust app and it looked like a very cute fishing village to explore.

I was right, it was very cute indeed with tiny houses and narrow streets to explore, but yet again the stormy weather beat us!!

We did manage to look around, very quickly whilst getting soaked, and saw the cutest village houses and shops which feel like a film set.

The harbour was dry, but littered with lots of boats in front of a backdrop of quirky houses on a hill.

There is a small beach with rocks to climb and an amazing cave on the beach. We had a very quick explore of the beach before retreating into a chip shop and sharing a portion of chips and beans just to warm ourselves up before walking back up to the car park!

On our way to Polperro we took a shorter route by getting the car ferry across the River Fowey! A fun experience for the kids and only £5 to cross. You can also get a return for £9, but we just drive back to Pentewan where we were staying by taking a longer route.
