Cornwall with kids: Pentewan Sands Beach

This October we went to Cornwall for one week with our kids ages seven and four years. We explored lots of beaches including Pentewan Sands Beach which is a privately owned beach in front of Pentewan Sands Holiday Park. I’ll share our thoughts of the beach and then all the photos at the end of the blog post.

Pentewan Sands Beach review

It’s a lovely sized beach to explore with young children. We walked from end to end and the kids had a great time. We covered around 8km just exploring the beach for a few hours!

There are rocky ends with rock pools and rocks to climb at each end. We even found a huge starfish that was around 40cm wide! It’s the best thing I’ve ever found in a rock pool!

The sea water is lovely and clear. We didn’t swim, it’s probably freezing right now, but we did splash along the shoreline in our wellies.

Actually the kids did take their shoes off at first, but they were freezing and the small stones hurt their feet so they quickly wanted their wellies on to splash in the water instead!

The sand is a mixture of great sand castle building type sand and also some areas of tiny stone type sand.

I thought the beach would be packed as it’s on a holiday resort, but it was lovely and quiet with plenty of space.

A river was running fast along the sand to the sea which the kids were worried about crossing or that it would be too deep for their wellies! So we carried them across! They loved wading through the shallower parts of the river though.

Reuben was most entertained by a large stick which he drew hundreds of ‘X marks the spot’ all over the beach!!

Bella loved covering her hands in sand and washing it off, burying her boots under the wet sand and searching in rock pools.

I loved climbing the rocks and having a coffee whilst sat with Reuben having a snack. We climbed up quite high, for a four year old, and watched the sea from up high admiring the jagged rocks.

The kids (and us) love climbing the rocks!

Towards the middle of the beach by the holiday park beach entrance is a wooden kids playground with swings and a slide.

Although I didn’t see any bins on the beach, it was incredibly clean and tidy. We saw a large group of litter pickers and they were struggling to find rubbish anywhere!

With the holiday park behind the beach, there is a lot of food and drink options! There is Hubbox right on the beach which is a diner serving burgers and hot dogs. They have a vegan option too! They also have toilets outside.

In the holiday park is a restaurant/bar with a soft play. There’s also a chippy and a shop which sells warm pasties.

The beach is great for kids. It has everything: rock pools, rocks to climb, sand, play areas and walls to climb and explore. It’s clean, tidy and has lovely clear water. The views are stunning with rocky edges, but luscious green rolling hills in the background.

I imagine it might get pretty packed in the summer, but was lovely and peaceful in October.
